Comfort Food

Some days you BBQ because you love the food no matter how much work it takes.  Others, just to show off.  And then there are those when you just need to get out of the house, fire up some coals, and cook something easy that provides a lot of pleasure when it comes time to sit down and eat.  Today was one of those days…

On the grill:

I am still mystified by why hot dogs and sausages now come in packages of 7, while buns all seem to come in packages that are multiples of 8.  Don’t the bakers and the butchers ever talk to each other, or is this some sort of dark conspiracy to make us go out and buy more of each so that they come out right?  This would certainly explain the state of our freezer these days…

Today was a tough day.  Come to think of it, this week has been a tough week, as witness the fact that no posts have been done here since Mother’s Day.  But enough whining, tonight was all about changing the mental state with some good old comfort food.  You know, the kind that doesn’t take a lot of work to make, doctors warn you about, and that send you rushing to the gym the following morning with lots of guilt and a bunch of calories to work off.  Yum.  Happy thoughts.  And yes, the Brandied Pears were served over vanilla ice cream. Absolutely decadent, no redeeming health benefits other than a sense of mental well-being (probably caused by rapidly dropping blood sugar).   You hungry yet?
