My youngest turned 7 years old today. Naturally, he wanted me to cook dinner, and his request? Why, steak, of course. And trashbag potatoes. And baked apple slices to go on the ice cream he is having with his cake. And who am I to turn down a birthday request like this?
The steaks were cut from a tri-tip roast, marinated in soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and some barbecue seasoning mixes. The trashbag potatoes were the traditional variety, with some of them burnt by request of the guest of honor. The apples took longer than I remembered, so they got served as a second dessert over ice cream.
Naturally, the first dessert was cake, homemade and decorated by Mom.
Needless to say, it was a happy birthday dinner for a little boy. And the rest of his family as well…
