Birthday Stuffin’

We always enjoy having a reason to cook for lots of people, and today it was on the occasion of Liz’s (of LizBob fame) birthday. Actually, tomorrow is her birthday, but we celebrated tonight anyway.

It was also an opportunity to put together the Weber OTG that I bought on sale several months ago and never got around to using due to the sudden appearance of a Performer that was an even better deal. However, due to a depressed real estate market, we were able to pick up a vacation home on Duck Lake in Ocean Shores for a sweet deal. More on this later, but for now suffice it to say that several of my BBQs have a new home and will actually get used more often as a result. The OTG was one of those recipients.

I’ll spare you the pictures of the assembly; OTGs take about 10 minutes to unbox and put together and it doesn’t make for great pictures. I will, however prove that the trashbag taters were made in the traditional fashion tonight…

Also on the menu was a stuffed pork loin. This monster was so long that we had to cut it in half before butterflying it for stuffing. The stuffing tonight was cream cheese, chopped dried apricots, dried cherries, and raisins.

I didn’t have any cooking cord to tie them back up with, so I made do with some wooden skewers stuck through the meat to hold it together. The stuffed pork then went on Pigdog’s lake Performer for about 1 1/2 hours, and was glazed with some teriyaki sesame ginger sauce about 10 minutes before removing.

The pork loins were a bit hit at dinner as were the trashbag taters; no pictures of the taters after they were cooked but I have witnesses that will vouch that they occurred. After all, I had to cook something on the new OTG, especially after going to all the trouble of firing up a chimney of charcoal…

All in all a great meal, and wonderful company. Happy birthday Liz, and I’ll be happy to cook for you again next year.
