Another Bubba Ho-Keg adventure

Tonight was all about convenience. Work was, well, work, and I was too busy during the day to worry about dinner, and when it came time to cook, too tired to want to mess around with anything fancy. So sausages and franks, beans, and onions and peppers it was.

The beans were the usual concoction of a couple of cans of “whatever we had on hand” (tonight it was kidney and black beans) with a bunch of stuff thrown in with them (rib rub, mustard, ketchup, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, onion flakes, etc.). All in all, a pretty easy meal.

The onions and peppers didn’t spend enough time on the grill (or were in a cool spot); they were hot but not as limp as they could have been. No worries though, as bananas were on the dessert menu.

We did these a little different tonight. SWMBO made them her way (which involves more butter) and reused a foil pastry tin. We also cooked them with skins off; this was more of a space issue in the tin than anything else. I have to say they were real tasty served over vanilla ice cream.

So after four straight days of cooking on Bubba Ho-Keg, I think it’s safe to say it will be around for some time to come. It will get a break over the weekend, but I am planning to do a quick write-up as to the pros and cons so far, and why I decided to buy this instead of a Big Green Egg. Stay tuned…
