  • Potato Salad
  • Not Baked Beans
  • PearApple Delight

We’re smokin’, yes indeed, we’re smokin’…  I owed my oldest daughter a BBQ for her birthday present, and today was the day she came to collect.  The ribs, potato salad, and beans were her choice; the PearApple Surprise was a “lets try something different for dessert” item I added to the menu at the last minute.  This is what happens when you buy too much fruit and it needs to be used up.

In case you are wondering what the heck are Not Baked Beans, they are what happens when you mix a large can of Bush’s Vegetarian Beans with a can of black beans, add in some leftover rib rub, sauted red onions, minced garlic, and various other spices that fall out of the cupboard when you open it and then simmer it slowly on the stove the whole time the ribs are smoking.  I would have done this on the smoker, but I don’t currently have a good bean pot (with lid) that can withstand smoker abuse.

On the other hand, FedEx showed up with the grill basket I ordered early in the week so that I could handle sliced veggies better and eventually smoke a meatloaf.  The wife suggested I put the PearApple Surprise in it so that the foil was less likely to break open and lose any of those tasty juices.  Yet another reason I keep her around… (Hi Dear, please don’t hurt me.)

Other than the fog that has been hanging most of the day, it was another great day to BBQ.  It looks like most of our wet weather missed us and is pounding the Midwest.  I feel sorry for them, but I won’t let it stop me from BBQing.   It’s so much fun that I think I will do it all night long tonight…
