This morning when we went down to wait for the school bus it was 8°F outside. Now I realize that in some parts of the country that amounts to a tropical heat wave at this time of year, but around here this is about as cold as it gets. The good news is that there was no precipitation. Yet. We’ll see what the weekend brings.
But enough of the weather report; around here when the weather gets challenging it makes me want to barbecue even more, if for no other reason than to show off to my friends (yes, I still have some of these). Tonight was no exception, and given our social calendar and the weather forecast for the rest of the week it was imperative that I cook outdoors tonight as it might be the weekend before I get to do it again. On the menu was some plain fare (not to be confused with plane fare, which in my extensive experience should not be confused with real food) consisting of spicy mango-jalapeno chicken sausages, beef franks, BBQ beans, and a nice mix of onions and peppers.
I have to admit that Bubba Ho-Keg puts out the heat. I was actually able to get my hands warmer than they had been all day by standing over the grill. I know, it might help if we turned up the heat in the house…
The final results were real tasty for a simple meal done in less than 30 minutes (including start-up time on Bubba Ho-Keg). Eating time was even less than that, and you can forget about leftovers…

no excuses… you are right… I smoked a pork loin yesterday… 15 degrees!
Grunt grunt grunt… that’s how men cook!
We aren’t that cold here but we did have almost 2.5″ of rain in 5 hours last night while I was grilling on the Egg. Thank goodness for pop-ups!
LMAO at your plane fare comment.
Wow, 8 degrees is crazy. You guys and your insulated cookers. You do beans really well.
I cook in this kind of weather on the Webers as well, but I have to admit that Bubba Ho-Keg does really well in the cold. And I’ve had a LOT of practice cooking beans over the years; they were a staple growing up and I learned how at an early age. Thanks for the compliment!
