99 morsels of MOINK on the grill

by zydecopaws on December 20, 2009

Yesterday was all about the appetizers. MOINK, chicken wings, and (shudder) Lil’ Smokies to be exact. I made up a huge batch of MOINK, and after loading up the grill counted them and was surprised to see that there were 99 of them. Sounds like a song to me. Here’s half of them filling up the bottom of the WSM shortly after arrival on the grill.

Did I mention chicken wings? There were so many of these to cook that I decided to fire up the Mothership and give it a workout. The wings were divided into two flavors, one a spicy BBQ sauce (cayenne pepper, rib rub, and garlic powder mixed in a ketchup-vinegar-molasses-honey-Jack Daniels base, brought to a boil and stirred well) and the other a honey mustard concoction (honey, dijon mustard, Jack Daniels, vinegar, cayenne, and thyme heated to a simmer and thickened with a bit of cornstarch). The wings were dusted with rib rub and left to cook for awhile, then joined on the grill by a basket of Lil’ Smokies. Sauces were added and after a bit the wings were turned so more sauce could be added. After a bit more, this is what they looked like.

Unfortunately I didn’t get any finished pictures of the MOINK. Probably had something to do with all the rushing around to get everything done in time for the party, then off the grill and covered in an attempt to keep it all hot. Somehow we managed, and the spread didn’t look too bad.

Now if I could just get that song out of my head…
