I am east coast (Massachusetts) and I went by the Butcher shop today and he did have a few tri tips. I asked why they are not popular and he had no real reason, he said he likes them. Who knew?

Apparently you aren't alone in your quest for tri-tips. It seems that it is a very popular cut on the West Coast and virtually non-existent in other parts of the country. You might try going to a butcher and seeing if they will cut some for you, although I shudder at the cost of custom cuts.

We buy them in the large Cryovac packages at the local warehouse store, repackage them with a Foodsealer, and freeze them until we're ready to pull them out.

Those look quite good! We can't get tri-tips around here. Well, Big Dude did but he bought 1/2 of a cow and that's a bit of a stretch for me storage-wise.

I think tri-tips are a West Coast thing as I've heard several folks from other parts of the country complain about the same thing. We get them at Costlyco in the big cryovac bags; they are at all the warehouse stores and Cash & Carries out here. I would imagine you would need to go to a butcher and ask for them if they aren't in the supermarkets in your area.

I have never tried as tri tip and after seeing them cooked here I checked at the grocery store and they did not have one. Are those something you get at a butcher shop? There are several here locally so I am sure I can find some.

I think it might be a way for bloggers to take a day off in the middle of the week. Sort of puts those without camera skills (or at least interesting pictures) at a disadvantage, but is certainly a no-brainer when it comes to thinking up a post name and all that writing nonsense that a normal post takes... ;)

No apologies necessary! This wordless wednesday thing pisses me off every week. There are some fantastic pictures posted every week but I have no idea what I'm looking at! What's the point? If you want to try "A few words Wednesday", it's got my vote!

They are handmade, but not by us. I have yet to invest in a tortilla press, although I keep threatening to. These were some more of the sun-dried tomato-habanero tortillas we had awhile back; the wife gets them at Trader Joe's.
