It was too hot to cook…

by zydecopaws on July 8, 2010

… but I did anyway. After all, there are No Excuses around here. It was close to 100°F when I went out to cook, which around here is cause for the weatherman to interrupt every program on every channel on a regular basis. Considering it never made it into the 70′s over the weekend, this is a stark contrast to what we had been having. Some days it’s hard to believe I went to high school in a town where temperatures under 100°F during the summer were considered a cold front…

But enough complaining about the heat and on to the meal. Tonight we used up some more leftover supplies from the weekend, grilled a bunch of fruit, and tried something new. First up was hotdogs and chicken sausages with roasted garlic and gruyere cheese.

Bubba Ho-Keg was barking with the dogs tonight; I did mention we were using up leftover supplies, didn’t I? I guess I left out the part about creating new leftovers…

The dogs were done, and on went fresh peaches, cut in half with the stones removed (duh). A couple of minutes on each side and they were ready to go.

All that food went into the house for assembly onto the plates, and some fresh pineapple was up next.

While the pineapple was cooking, we were eating. The grilled peaches were put on a bed of greens, topped with some crumbles of gorgonzola (we were out of bleu) cheese, and drizzled with honey. The rest pretty much speaks for itself…

Did we overdo it with the fruit tonight? No one at the table complained, and the inside of the house stayed as cool as it could be considering we don’t have air conditioning. The peach salad concoction was very good even though we used cheese that, according to the little red-headed boy, smelled like his sister’s dirty gym shoes…

Looks like a fine summer meal!

It is really hot (“milk was a bad choice! “-Ron Burgundy) here as well. I am going to get up way early and hit the river tomorrow morning before it gets crazy with all the boaters to do some fishing.

It was 98 when I went out to cook at 7pm the other night too. Maybe Al Gore and the polar bears are right about global warming ;)

Great looking plate, I don’t think it was too much fruit, especially on such a hot day.

Have you ever heard of Ah-So sauce? I did a red chinese chicken with it today, not too bad! Pics up for a look.

I’ve heard of it, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen any out here on the Left Coast. Maybe I should hang out in Asian markets more often…
