It’s World Turtle Day

And what better way to celebrate than to put one on the CrockaQue and grill it up? What’s that you say, you can’t cook them on the half-shell? Fine, in that case lets fire up the wok in the BS Keg and fix up some stir-fry. Once the fire is going, carve up the meat, then add some soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and cornstarch. Throw it in the wok in some steaming hot sesame oil and stir well.

Add in the fresh veggies you have on hand (in this case half a sweet white onion, some water chestnuts, mushrooms, and snow peas) and the rest of the pineapple that didn’t get used in yesterday’s 4-ingredient challenge.

You end up with a tasty and quick Monday meal. You can’t see it very well in this picture, but it was served over brown rice. Not leftover wild rice, which fortunately was eaten by somebody else this morning for breakfast. Nothing goes to waste around here…

Oh, did I forget to mention that the meat was actually chicken thighs? Turtle isn’t exactly carried in the supermarkets up here, and the pet stores weren’t real interested in having their stock used for, well… stock. Or in a wok. And they chased me out with a rock.

My apologies to Theodore Geisel…
