The Birthday Dinner that wasn’t

by zydecopaws on June 9, 2011

Today the Little Red-haired Boy turned nine years old. He chose his version of Surf and Turf (with Trashbag Potatoes) for dinner, but he is learning about delayed gratification in his advancing years. In other words, he has to wait until Saturday so his oldest sister can join us to celebrate. So if you want to see Teriyaki Strips and Cajun Shrimp Skewers cooked on the Mothership you’ll have to check back here Saturday evening.

Not only does he have to wait, but his second choice was for me to cook a big pot of pinto beans with ham and I managed to screw that up by not remembering until almost noon. So guess what is on the menu tomorrow…

What he ended up with wasn’t bad. Ribeye steaks were on the grill with some spiced-up corn. In a pot that needs some serious exterior cleaning.

The end result was more than satisfactory, and the Birthday Boy registered no complaints.

He did disappear right after eating though. I think he’s concerned about someone remembering those birthday swats he was promised…
