Turkey Time

It may not be Thanksgiving yet, but that didn’t stop us from having a family turkey dinner on Veterans Day. After all, we’re thankful for their service, why not combine two holidays into one? Besides, this frees us up to have Thanksgiving dinner again and let someone else cook for a change.

Most of the dinner was cooked on the Mothership. That’s a 20lb. turkey, pan of dressing, and several sweet potatoes taking up less than half the grill…

The turkey was stuffed and put on the grill (indirect, of course) a bit after noon and was done cooking right around 5. In spite of the cold and rain, the Mothership did an admirable job of maintaining a 325°F temperature throughout the cook, and I only had to add charcoal once. I don’t use this cooker often, but it sure comes in handy when you have a lot to cook. And who can argue with results like this?

The turkey wasn’t the only thing stuffed by the end of the night. As usual, we overdo everything with this particular meal. SWMBO kicked in her green bean casserole, homemade cranberry sauce, and a pumpkin pie for good measure. There were also plenty of fresh veggies, dip, and a relish tray available for those that just couldn’t get enough. That certainly wasn’t me…

Between the leftover beef from Friday and all the food that didn’t disappear in Oldest Daughter’s car we should be set for the week. Rumor has it that turkey noodle soup is on the menu tonight.

Now where did those stretchy pants go?
