Cottage Pie

No shepherds were harmed in the making of this pie. No lambs, either. Cottage pie is what happens when you use beef (or some other meat) instead of lamb to make a shepherd’s pie.

As you might have guessed by now, I didn’t use beef. Tonight’s pie contained ground bison along with all the other ingredients one might expect in a cottage (shepherd’s) pie. Onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms, and thyme with the bison in a dark beer (Black Butte Porter) and worcestershire sauce. No peas in sight, because I don’t care for them.

Unfortunately, the finished dish wasn’t very photogenic. The best I could get was some of what was left in the pan after the first serving.

Notice I said first serving. What was left in the pan disappeared shortly after that picture was taken. My only regret with this meal was not making a double batch…

Daaaaaaamn that looks so good. Alexis was talking about making a shepherd’s pie last week but I like your cottage pie better.
