Friday, Lent, and more Catholics

img_0320It’s Friday, apparently it is still Lent, and more Catholics arrived for a visit.  As such, it must be another night for fish…

On the grill:

I swear I’m not in a rut with the Mahi-mahi.  This is what happens when out-of-state Catholic relatives that have been hearing about the fish results show up on a Friday during Lent.  Besides, who am I to argue, as this gives me even more reason to cook outdoors, and if it means eating tasty fish on Friday, then so be it.

SWMBO has determined that the mahi-mahi is better with capers, so if you are wondering what the green specks on the fish are, that would be them.  I have to admit they do add a nice tang to the fish in addition to what it already gets from the lemon slices, so I guess I will have to modify the recipe accordingly.

img_0322The Brandied Pears were a first, but I have to admit they were only a slight modification from all the other baked desserts we’ve been serving up.  In addition to the usual brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon, the pears received a nice coating of brandy as well.  And yes, it was the cheaper stuff that you cook with, not the good drinking kind.  As usual, this type of dessert goes well with ice cream; most of the crew ate it that way, but I had mine without and it was very good as a stand-alone dessert.

Vital Statistics:

  • BBQ Start time: 16:10
  • Meal time: 17:00
  • Temperature:     49°F
  • Dew Point:     41°F
  • Humidity:    72%
  • Wind:    Calm
  • Daily Precip.:    0.05in

Drippy today, and that was just the weather.  However we are quickly approaching what most folks would term “BBQ season” around here.  I’m guessing I will just have to see how many more cooks I can get in before amateur season arrives…
